Taggie Blanket Revisioned

Do you recognize these photos?  I sure hope so!  Notice the fabric hanging over the side of the pack and play?  I hid that from my previous post.  That's what I get to share with you today!

Since we were going to make the blanket in the style of his first taggie blanket, Jackie was tasked with picking out what ribbons she wanted to use.  We were standing in the ribbon aisle for quite some time - I have to say not as long as I would have been deciding.  This is what we finally ended up with.
We decided that the animal prints worked well with the theme of the blanket.

The blanket was going to be twice the size of the one I made before... which meant it was 2 feet by 2 feet!  We decided the order of the ribbons.  Cut and cut and cut.  Jackie helped me place them all and pinned.

All pinned and ready to go.

Then it was time to sew.  I checked each of the corners to see which would be the best to use for turning (yes I am partially paranoid that one day I won't be able to turn it through).  Once that was decided I got to sewing.  But, it was a little different than at home.  Jackie's table is very high.  To the point were my feet are not on the floor when sitting on the chair.  So that means that I got to try my hand at sewing while standing up.
Yes I am using purple thread to sew the blanket.  I mean you can't see the thread I use from the outside. :)
That wine glass was holding very delicious Blueberry Blush from The Georgia Winery
It was all sewn and turned and ironed to look so pretty.
This was the first time I had ever ironed on a towel!

It was so BIG and jungley!!  Jackie loved it.  Unfortunately we had to wash the thing before we could give it to the cutie pie.

The little one was using it to push himself around on the floor.  It was so cute!  I will have to see if I have video of this to share.

I'm wearing a cute pink sweater at work today... I can't believe I am wearing a sweater in the middle of summer in Florida! All because the office gets cold.

Welcome to the Jungle! - Onesie

Here is the next cutie thing that I made for Caleb.

Jackie loves it.  I even made a few other things in this fabric (which I have to wait and show you later).

This is the super cute fabric that Jackie picked.  You can see the tie tracings I did with a white fabric pencil.

The knot part of the tie pinned and ready for sewing.

The tie sewn to itself and pinned to the onesie.

Tie all sewn!!  And the back is made so the monkey peeks out!

And the young man of the hour.  Wearing the tie.  I have more pictures of this little man all dressed up but I can't show them yet because the other things are hiding in the backgrounds.

I miss this little guy so much and I can't wait to get started on the quilt I am going to make for him.  I'll give you a hint... it is more jungle!

RAWR - Dino Tie

I was quite the crafty one this past weekend.  Partly due to the fact that I could sew an outfit and actually be able to see it on the baby in real time!

Today I will be sharing the Dino tie that I made.  Just wait it is so super cute!

I first started with a brown onesie and my dino fabric.

I traced my pattern onto the fabric with a white fabric pencil.  Jackie wanted the triceratops to be in the knot of the tie and the long neck to be the focus of the tie.

Each piece was cut, pinned to it's opposite with right sides together.  I am funny and like to predetermine where my openings are going to be before I sew.  That way I feel a little better while I am in the process of trying to turn them.

I completed the terrifying job of turning the fabric (the whole time worrying my hole was too small).  They were ironed nice and crisp before I hand sewed the knot to the tie.  I then sewed the tie onto the t-shirt.  I went over the same spot three times to make sure it wouldn't get ripped off by little hands.  It is also important to point out, make sure the back of the shirt doesn't get sewn to the front.... yeah learned from experience the first time I made one.

Washed the shirt and iron the tie pretty again.

Put on the model and oohh and aaahh!!

Isn't he just the CUTEST!!!  I have to say it was much more fun to sew something and almost immediately see it on the person it was made for.

I have more sewing projects to share next week!

Pinterest Pick - Onesie

Today's pick is of something that I hope to recreate for a baby shower gift.  I have to find ways to use the 20 onesies that I have.

I have ribbon and cutesy fabrics so I totally think that I could do this!  I do have quite a few people to be making things for too!

Sorry for a short post... it took me too long to make my new banner thing.  :)

Pinterest Pick - Football Onesie

The Pinterest Pick of the week is a Football Onesie.  I had seen this and pinned it a while ago.  I have yet to make it but I not only have the brown onesie but also white fabric that I think would be perfect for the "laces".

I would want to actually make the laces look more like the circular laces on the football... I am not quite sure how to achieve that yet but I will make it happen.

I think it would be just so adorable on a baby.

Onesie Bowtie!

When my co-worker asked if I could make her some tie onesies I thought I should try out making something different.  What was my idea you ask?  A bowtie onesie!

I apologize I don't have a picture of my templates, but just like with my tie I made my own template and cut out two pieces of fabric.

I pinned them together wrong sides out.  Sewed around leaving a hole for turning.  Turned it outside sewed it closed.

My favorite part?  Sewing it on the shirt!!

I plan to make more in different patterns, colors, and sizes.  :)

Baby Onesie - Tie

Once I found out that my friend J (Baby Shower Gift Take Two) was having a baby I could not help to begin thinking of all of the different baby things I had seen on blogs and etsy.  I wanted to make ALL of them!  But I realized that I would have to start somewhere.  The somewhere I decided to start was by making a onesie with a tie.  In searching around the internet I kept seeing ties that were sewn completely onto the shirt.  I didn't think that would be as fun as if the tie looked and acted like a real tie.

So I set out to pick out Gator fabric (since they are very big Florida Gator fans) and the perfect orange color thread.
Sorry this is all I had left of the fabric I used.  I didn't think at the time to take shots of the fabric.

In all of the blog posts I never saw a template that I could just print and go.  I was at square one in making a pattern as I had never made one before.  Using card stock I sketched what I thought would be a good sized tie for the 3-6 month onesie.
My make shift pattern.  The red is to indicate the sewing allowance.

Using the pattern I cut out all of the pieces (two ties and two "knots").  Matching the right sides together I sewed the tie, leaving the top side open for turning.  Once it was turned right sides out and the corners were pushed out (with a chopstick) it was time to sew the "knot".  This was a little trickier because the fabric pieces were small and it had to be continuously turned as it was being sewn.
Pinned and ready to be sewn.

Once both pieces were turned and ironed nice and crisp it was time to attach them together.  I hand sewed the tie to the "knot" making sure the thread did not show through on the front of the "knot".  With the tie and "knot" now in one piece the "knot" part of the tie can be sewn onto the onesie.  I tried to catch the top of the tie while I was sewing the "knot" to make sure it would stay in place.

In making several of these, I have learned that it is best to go around two or three times to really secure the "knot" to the shirt.  Since the tie is movable it might become a target for little fingers to grab and mouths to chew, so the extra security is a good thing.

I am hoping to make a few of these to bring to the craft fair I may be going to with Ellie in April.  I just hope that people will think they are cute enough to want to purchase.
