Quilt Complete!

It is finished!!!  I sewed up the rest of the border last night.  I couldn't believe how cute it was!

I now know some little tricks on what to do and not do next time.  Hopefully I will be able to make the next one faster.  I might even have someone who already wants to buy it. :)

I am sorry for the not so great quality but all I had on my was my iphone.

The front is the blue bubbles and line pattern and the back is the brown with the blue pattern.

I can't wait to sew up my next one!!

Mentor Monday - Desiring to create clothes

I have been sitting here munching on Simply 7 Lentil Chips for the last few minutes trying to remember just how I came across my next mentor.  Was it through some of the ladies I have already mentioned... Not sure.

Regardless, Katy of No Big Dill, is absolutely amazing.  She loves orange, her kitchen counters are green (GREEN! and I kinda want MY counters to be green too), and she has six children.  All of these children are super cute and I would love to see her (and them) in action.  Oh and did I fail to mention she is a sewing genius!!!

In this tutorial she made a swimsuit for one of her daughters (oh yea, she has five girls and one boy).  I read over her instructions and thought to myself, I can totally do that!  She has so many great sewing ideas and little things like this.

Enjoy!!!

Pinterest Pick - Wall Art

The bf has been looking to buy a house (unfortunately up to this point with no success) and over the past year of looking I have realized that what I really want in whatever house he gets is my own room to dedicate to crafting.  Pinterest has allowed me to search and really begin to define what I would want in a crafting space. I love being able to see someone elses finished project on a dresser remodel or a color scheme so that I can imagine what it would be like if I had one.

What I want to share today in my Pinterest Pick is something that I would like to put up on one of the walls (at this point in my fictional craft room).  It is a wall decal of a dandelion.  I love how the flowery things are floating away just like someone blew them to make a wish.  It reminds me of being young and carefree.  I imagine it would bring a sense of peace and whimsey to the room.

I have not looked into the pricing but at this point for me it does not matter.  I sadly have no room to put it in.  My hope is that once the bf actually does buy a house he will make sure that I get my own craft room (although all along he has been saying that the guest room will be the craft room).

I hope everyones first weekend of February is going great!  I will be going to Kissimmee today to go go karting on a mile long track!  Wooooo!!

Food Friday: Gluten-Free Pigs in a Blanket

I have a love for Hillshire Farm Little Wieners all wrapped up in crescent rolls.  Well since I can't have crescent rolls anymore, totally gluten-free unfriendly, I have been sadly missing out enjoying their yummyness.

BUT I don't have to miss out anymore!!

This is the batter mix.  It is very sticky so it is best to wet your hands as you are using it.
Using Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Pizza Crust Mix I wrapped up some little doggies and cooked them up in the oven and....

TA DA!!!! Pigs in a Blanket!

They were extremely delicious dipped in just a little bit of mustard.

Enjoy!!!

Threading the Machine

So as I mentioned yesterday I went over to my friend Julie's yesterday so play with her sewing machine... well to teach her how to use it.

I was wrong in thinking the machine was in the box, it was already out and had been played with a little (Julie said she tried one day for hours trying to get the darn thing threaded).

Our first obstacle was that the ring that goes around the bobbin area to hold everything in was missing.  This lead to a 10 minute search in which Julie swore that all the sewing stuff had been all together.  She was kinda right. ;)

I managed to get the ring and the bobbin situated correctly (my machine is much older and all of the bobbin pieces are VERY particular about how they want to be placed in there - Julie's was much easier) and made sure everything seemed in working order.

This is when the fun started happening.  I read through the manual with Julie so that she would know where the directions were for each different component of the machine.  Using the directions in the manual, I figured out how to thread the machine (it is sooooo different from mine because mine has nobs and things sticking out everywhere) and sewed a line for Julie.  Man, can her machine move!  The foot pedal is extremely sensitive.  You push down slightly and it is slow as molasses and you push a little harder and it is zooming as fast as NASCAR!

So we took some time learning how to thread the machine, the bobbin, and get the bobbin thread up with the upper thread.  I may end up making her a picture book of how to thread her machine. :)

Once it was ready to go again, it was Julie's turn to play seamstress with my quilt scraps (speaking of my quilt, it is coming along swimmingly!  I will hopefully be able to show it off next week).  She made some beautiful masterpieces, like an A just for me (can you see it?).

Then we got to experimenting with the different stitches her machine will make.  Different widths of zig zags, straight stitches, and some crazy other ones.  She was having so much fun!

Hopefully soon we can maybe have another lesson where I teach her how to sew a little project.

Date with Julie

Tonight I get to open a brand new in the box sewing machine.  No it is not mine, it's my friend Julies!  She was given the machine as a gift (I am not sure about all of the details) over a year ago and has never touched it!  So I get to show her how to get it all ready to sew.

I even brought some of my "omg-i-can't-believe-i-cut-this-the-wrong-size" fabric to play with.

I can't wait!  I hope she is as excited as I am!!!
