Mentor Monday: Sugar Mama

EDIT!!! Up until right now at 4:10pm I totally thought today was MONDAY!  It ISN'T!!!  So I present a special Mentor Monday.... on a Tuesday... :)

It's bbbbbbbaaaacccckkkkk!!!  I have not done a Mentor Monday in a while and I thought I should bring it back since I found another one.

She is a momma of a super cutie little girl, loves baking, and is gluten-free too!!!  Her Sugar Mama baking blog is awesome.  She shares recipes and pictures of all of the very beautiful things that she makes.

She has a recipe for a homemade gluten-free flour that is supposed to be delicious.  I have not tried to make my own gluten-free flour and I am kind of nervous too.  There are just so many ways that it could get messed up.  But she makes it sounds easy!  Anyway.  You should check out her blog because she is amazing.  :)

Mentor Monday - Ode to my Momma

Well, this week I have been thinking a lot about family (especially since both of my sisters got to spend the weekend together = not fair!) and I couldn't think of a better mentor this week than my mom.

She was, and still is, a stay at home mom (working as a transcriptionist, yea she can type really fast) who always was there whenever she was needed.  Along with my dad, she always would push me to do what I liked and made sure that I was happy doing it.

During my year teaching I called her every day on either the way to work or the way home.  I really needed to have her reassure me everyday (yea big hint that it was not a good fit for me) and she did, every single time.

And now, I am happy with my job and much healthier, she is still there whenever I need her and is super excited for me when I made anything new.

I just wish that she lived a bit closer so I could show off my things in person.

Thanks for visiting!

Mentor Monday - All because of a Tree House

Welcome to Mentor Monday!  I have been playing around with Picnik a lot lately (I am sure you have noticed) with the knowledge that it will be closing in April.  I am very sad about this btw because I wish I would have known about it sooner and made things in it because it is super cool.

On to our regularly scheduled programming:

The mentor this week is someone that I just discovered this weekend.  I was showing off my For the Home Pinterest board to the bf.  He was like "omg what is that!?".  He was referring to this pin of a super awesome looking tree house.  I clicked on the picture hoping to see the exact post it came from... but alas the person who originally pinned the link didn't link to the exact post just the main blog page.

Well I decided that I wanted to find the post that it was from... and me being me I couldn't start reading from the newest post.  So naturally I went to the oldest post first.  I have made it through about nine months.  And no I have not found the tree house post yet, BUT I WILL FIND IT, and immediately let you know.

I have found that I am really enjoying the blog.  Her name is Lorilyn Crum (and her husband every once and a while).  She writes about the home improvements and sewing projects that she does.  She also is very good about referencing some of the blogs that she loves and reads daily.  I have to say her list of blogs that she follows is llloooonnnngggggg and dare I say intimidating.

I can't say much more than she definitely has some vision!  I hope that you enjoy her blog too!

Mentor Monday - Creativity

I have loved reading the New York Times for a long time now.  I even eventually paid for a unlimited online access subscription (which I have since cancelled because my money must be used to go elsewhere).  So through that unlimited access I read article after article and ended up coming across one of their bloggers.

He comes out with a post about once a month and their are always very different from each other.  It is fascinating to see how others make their creativity known.

His name is Christoph Niemann and he writes the Abstract Sunday Blog.  There are not that many entries but they are all wonderful.

Check it out!

Mentor Monday - Impromptu Inspiration

The bf and I went to a craft fair on Saturday and saw some very awesome things.  I saw this one piece and went back and forth and back and forth and finally decided I had to have it.

It was made by Michelle Harris.  She takes antique watches and other old items and turns them into jewelry!  I was struck by how much all of the pieces spoke to me.

I have loved watches for a long time, I can thank my dad for that, and seeing these antique watches being turned into something beautiful.

This is the piece that I bought:

Check out the website to see some of the other really amazing things she makes.

Mentor Monday - Embroidery Madness

One of the first blogs that I found (I honestly can not remember how) is by Mollie.  She is amazingly creative and I have learned so many new embroidery skills just from reading her blog.  She creates themed embroidery pieces and items that can be purchased in her Etsy Shop.  Her signature is faces.  All of her designs have little faces on them, each and everyone.  The faces make the designs come to life.  She has a Spoonflower account where she actually makes fabric too!

I have saved many of her free printables to hopefully one day practice making them.  She helped me decide how I wanted to set up my blog schedule by sharing hers.  I hope to emulate how Mollie is able to create and develop such interesting and unique items.

Enjoy her blog here.

Mentor Monday - Desiring to create clothes

I have been sitting here munching on Simply 7 Lentil Chips for the last few minutes trying to remember just how I came across my next mentor.  Was it through some of the ladies I have already mentioned... Not sure.

Regardless, Katy of No Big Dill, is absolutely amazing.  She loves orange, her kitchen counters are green (GREEN! and I kinda want MY counters to be green too), and she has six children.  All of these children are super cute and I would love to see her (and them) in action.  Oh and did I fail to mention she is a sewing genius!!!

In this tutorial she made a swimsuit for one of her daughters (oh yea, she has five girls and one boy).  I read over her instructions and thought to myself, I can totally do that!  She has so many great sewing ideas and little things like this.

Enjoy!!!
