Peek Into My Life: No Longer too Cool for School

As an employee of UCF I am lucky enough to have the ability to take a class to two for free each semester.  I have not taken them up on this offer until now.

This is my sisters last year at UCF and I am devastated.  I have loved having her here and wish UCF would have had a program for what she wants to major in.

With her leaving soon, she got an idea in her head that we should take a class together.  Now, I have not taken classes since I graduated in 2009.  That is a long time.  I am not sure how I will deal with having another thing listed on my daily checklists.

But I am going to do it.  Especially since it means that I will have a guaranteed 3 hours with her each week.  I mean she is even picking me up from work and driving me to class!!

We went and bought our books this past week.  It was weird being in the bookstore again.  And apparently they are letting you rent books now.  I am not exactly sure how I feel about that.

I even treated myself to a new composition book to take notes in.  Staci thinks it is crazy that I want to take hand-written notes because she does everything on the computer.  I will just have her send me the notes.  :)

I have about two weeks till classes start and I am getting excited.

It may cause me to want to continue taking classes to explore if I really do like accounting...

Hope everyone's second day of school is going great (or teacher planning days)!

What I'm Reading Monday - Anna and the French Kiss

I finished up The Best Man in Texas last week.  I enjoyed it, it was very predictable like all romance novels are.  But I do have to say there are a few moments that I was not expecting.  It's next stop: the used bookstore!

This week I am reading a book from Kellee:

I am only in Chapter 2 and so far it is going well.  Anna has been sent of to Paris for her senior year in high school.  I am just to the point where she is desperately upset because her parents left and she is meeting her next door neighbor.  I have been told it is a good book so I have high hopes. :)  I will certainly let you know.

Happy Monday!!

Why I really can't buy anymore books...

So I guess I can be held responsible for this, but I really don't think I should.  Borders always had too many good buy 2 get one or buy 3 get two free deals... I think they are to blame...

This is the bottom shelf.  There are two sets of rows on the bottom and top.

These were really not my fault as they came from Kellee. :)

All of these books were under my bed and needed to be moved since our friend moved in temporarily...

So by integrating all of the books this is what my lower two shelves now look like.  The bottom now has three rows along the bottom and the two rows above.  The second shelf has two rows now too!  I do have to say that some of my old text books (the tiny paperback ones) are on the second shelf but they don't take up much room.

Here is a close up of the second shelf.

And if you were wondering, I have not read the vast majority of these.  Again I blame it on the bookstores.  Probably a little because of my senior internship during my undergrad.  A bit on my first (and at this point only) year of teaching.

I have a goal on Goodreads to read 50 books by the end of the year.  So far I have read a grand total of 12.  Hopefully I can get my reading gears going faster... especially since I just have so many books to read.

I think I can, I think I can...

What I'm reading Monday - Fat Bride

I sucked you in with that title didn't I?  :D

Since I have started linking up about what I am reading over at Teach Mentor Texts, I have been reading more and more.  This week I haven't finished a new book but I am about a 1/3 of the way through.

I actually was given this book by Kellee a long while ago and finally last week picked it up to read.  I have to say that I am enjoying it so far but it is not at all like what I expected.  The voice of the story is that of the bride.  I noticed the other day that it is as if the reader is supposed to be her best friend or diary.  She gave a little bit of back story at the beginning but from then on it seems as if I (the reader) should know more than what is being explicitly said.  I described it to Kellee as if I am supposed to be her best friend for many years and I should know things, but since I am not I feel as though I am missing out on some things.

As I mentioned I am only about 1/3 of the way through but she is already at the wedding.  Going into it I thought the wedding would take place later on in the book.  So at this point I am wondering what in the world is going to happen in the last 2/3rds.  I guess I will just have to read and see. :)

I will have to let you know if it is worth reading once I am done.

What I've been reading

So I am a bad blogger.  I didn't post yesterday.  I might have to redo my schedule to pick a different topic for Mondays or I just have to make sure I set up my posts during the weekend.

I apologize.  I will try to organize myself better.

For today I have a quick little review of a graphic novel series I have been reading.  The series I am reading is Fables.  It is a series is about all of our favorite fairy tale and fable characters.  There are fables characters living in New York City having escaped from their Homelands to get away from the unidentified Adversary.  Such good stuff!!  I just started this one today.  It is the 10th book of the Fables Series and delving deeper into the conflicts between the Fables and the Homeland.

I have to thank my bf for buying me the first one and getting me hooked.

There is a new series that focuses on the girls of the fairy tale and fable world!!!  Fairest follows the girls around and focuses on their own stories.  The first book in the series focuses on Briar Rose.  I have not yet read it because I haven't gotten to Fables #107... I am at #60 and can't decide if I should wait to read it until I get to #107 or if I don't want to be patient and read it now and possibly clue myself into something that I shouldn't "know" yet.  Gaaahhh!!!

So to sum up:  I was a sucky blogger yesterday but I have a new plan in place and you should read Fables.

Oh and I love when I get comments on the posts I make!  It makes me believe that there really are people out there reading my blog!!
